The Beauty of Fasting
Written by, Donaven Clarke
What is Fasting ?
Fasting is the intentional withholding of our earthly desires. You can fast from things such as food, water, desert, TV, music, etc. As followers of Christ, fasting is both a duty and a privilege. Although fasting can be greatly difficult, today we are gonna be uncovering the absolute beauty of it all.
Fasting isn’t easy. The struggle is real, and the temptation is strong. But it’s in those moments of difficulty that we find strength and growth. The day you start fasting begins a powerful journey—one filled with physical challenge, spiritual breakthrough, and moments of pure joy in God’s presence. Through it all, you’ll discover that fasting isn’t just about giving up; it’s about receiving so much more.

Beauty In Struggle (Testimony)
I completed my first 24 hour fast a couple of months prior to me writing this. I did it because I was told by the spirit to do so. I was going through a rough season at my job where I was being falsely accused of something I didn’t do. Mentally I was spiraling. I was put to another position on the site that I did not enjoy. As I was standing at my post God told me to fast. And for the rest of the shift into the next day I only drank water and black coffee.
Not only did I fast from food, I had also fasted from worldly music. While at work all I played was traditional hymnals and gospel. There were multiple waves of hunger. Times where it felt like my stomach was going to eat itself. But it was during these times where I felt the closest to God. It was as if I had 5G connection with my creator. When he spoke I heard. And when he spoke I listened.
He guided me and gave me strength even when I was hungry and spiraling. God called me to fast so I could shut out distractions during a time when I needed focus the most. I couldn’t truly receive His comfort and guidance while indulging myself smacking on ribs and listening to Jay-Z. Fasting deepened my connection with Jesus and allowed Him to guide me onto the right path.
It was through the struggle where I gained peace. I gained peace about my season at work. I grew closer in my faith regardless of what was going on physically. Even though after my fast nothing at work had changed immediately. I knew that everything was gonna be ok because I stand with the one true God. Then days later I received zero disciplinary action and was moved back to my original position with no changes. Fasting had cut out all distractions and gave me peace within chaos.
I urge that if your reading this today and you feel like the walls of life are caving in on you. This is your call to turn away your plate and seek God.
